your "-j 12" compile option may use up a lot of RAM with all the parallel compilations so maybe do a "make clean" and then try a smaller -j ? meanwhile I have built a successor 4.15 and it boots on my VM, so thanks to Nicholas for finding that. I uploaded if anyone else wants to try. I'll give it a go on my TCM now.
