Yes, the current c implement is not so easy to read,  very old style!

The good part is that the protocol seems very clear:)

Possible?
Sure.

Will it be bigger and slower?
Sure.

Will Guus do it?
Most likely not.

Feel free to do it, but don't expect it to be that easy. And you will
need to be able to at least read C, to understand the details of how it
works.
