In my experience tinc can serve gigabit networks easily (< 30% CPU on
~1000 Mbit/s over iperf3 if I remember correctly) on my dedicated servers.

It does less well on VMs, e.g. I found it especially problematic on
whatever DigitalOcean uses, less problematic on what AWS uses.

As a result, performance is not an issue for me with tinc.
