this is very interesting, thanks for trying and letting us know, it gives hope that a solution will be found. do you think it'd be possible to put the backlight driver into the initrd so that it gets loaded during boot, and ensure the i915 driver has to be loaded from /lib/modules/$version/kernel/drivers/foo/bar/baz.ko ?
